Per Örtenwall - Prize winner with pipe wrench
The trauma surgeon Per Örtenwall didn't even use his surgical tools for his most famous operation. He borrowed the janitor's pipe wrench to pull out a sward from a little girl's head. But it is not his surgical skills that secured him the Scandinavian Update's Prize of Honour. He receives it for his untiring work for a better organization of trauma care, his dedication to training and education and his efforts to strengthen the international network in the interest of the patient.
Per Örtenwall lives and works in Gothenburg. He is teamleder Trauma in the Surgical Department of Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where he has worked since 1997. He is, however, well know outside the hospital walls as a person dedicated to his work for trauma care, not only in his own department,
but across county and country borders.
